What The Players Are Saying

Jill Swary (Grandview / Wittenberg U) – Assistant Girl’s Coach at Grandview

Coach Daup helped me become a more confident and aggressive player while emphasizing the fundamentals of the game.  He is aware of the demands of a college program and helped me realize how much hard work and dedication would be involved to succeed at the next level.

Ryan Pedon (Bexley / College of Wooster) – Assistant Men’s Coach at U of Toledo

Learning from Coach Daup truly prepared me for college basketball.  His teaching and overall knowledge of the game were very beneficial for me and influenced my growth both as a player and as a current assistant college basketball coach.

Maria Call (Dublin Scioto)

I could probably write a book with all the basketball knowledge Coach Daup taught me

as a four year starting point guard.  He taught me more than the skills of the game – like, if I wanted to achieve my dreams and goals, my commitment of spending extra time and effort was an important part of making it happen. Thanks to Coach Daup, I learned to play with “no fear” and “no limits” and to push myself beyond my comfort zone.

Jill (Repass) Elliott (Gahanna Lincoln / Otterbein College)

Coach Daup is the most positive coach that I played for in my 15 years of playing organized basketball.  He is the coach that gave me the drive to play college basketball and also the coach that helped me gain confidence in my abilities.  Coach Daup’s talent, ability to teach the game, confidence he shows in his players and methods of training are

exceptional.

Carolyn Simpson (Dublin Scioto High School / Denison University)

Coach Daup is responsible for teaching me offensive moves that I find effective in the college game.  As a post player, it is difficult to find someone who will take the time to teach you what the inside game is about, and Coach D was the one who did that for me.

Not only does he have a great deal of knowledge about the post position, but he is also willing to patiently teach you what he knows.

Kyle Conley (Ridgedale High School / Tiffin University) Lake Erie College Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach

Coach Daup is a tremendous teacher of the game.  His passion and energy for the game of basketball is contagious.  As a former player under Coach Daup, I witnessed his ability to not only teach the game, but relate to and motivate today’s basketball player.  His experience and knowledge would be helpful to any player, but also to coaches looking to improve themselves.

Talia (Brader) Cromwell (St. Francis DeSales High School / Ohio Wesleyan University) St. Francis DeSales H.S. Girl’s Varsity Assistant

I played AAU basketball under Coach Daup while in high school.  This was a critical time in my development as a player, and I feel Coach Daup and my AAU experience facilitated this!  My skills as a point guard (both offensively and defensively) improved, and I grew as a leader.  Besides his help with my individual game, Coach helped instill a sense of “team” into me and my teammates.

Brad DuPont (Massillon Jackson High School / Wheeling Jesuit)

Coach Hoover and Coach Daup gave me the best tips that gave me not only great fundamentals, but gave me confidence to perform to my greatest ability.  Coach Hoover and Coach Daup push you to do well in their camp and also give you the motivation to work harder in everything you do.  Every offensive drill, every defensive drill, every footwork drill, JDH Winners’ Edge gives you the techniques needed to take your game to the college level.

Crystal Murdaugh (Dublin Scioto H.S. / North Carolina A&T / BGSU)

Having Coach Daup as a high school basketball coach for four years is one of the reasons I am the type of person and basketball player I am today.  I was a one dimensional player when I entered high school and had no confidence in my jump shot.  Coach got me to believe in myself by providing me with various drills and showing me different techniques to improve my jumper.  Every time I worked with Coach, I noticed improvement in my jump shot and I started to believe that I could shoot as well as anyone else.  Coach also helped me learn about the importance of “team” and having a good work ethic.  Overall, my skills, knowledge, and purpose of the game of basketball have completely changed because of one of the best and smartest coaches out there.  After being named O.C.C. Player of the Year, Central District Co-Player of the Year, 1st Team All Ohio, and receiving a basketball scholarship to Bowling Green State University, I will never take for granted what Coach has taught me.  I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to play for him.

Domini Paradiso (Bishop Watterson High School / St. Mary’s College)

As a high school post player, I have never been to a basketball camp like JDH Winners’ Edge where I received so much one-on-one attention.  During the camp, the tremendous coaching staff helped me to refine my post moves, improve my outside shot, increase my agility, and boost my confidence.  The coaches were positive with me and always eager to answer any of my questions. I LOVED JDH Winners’ Edge Camp and can’t wait to go back this year!

Cathy Szall (Columbus West / Ohio University)

Coach Daup taught me the specific techniques needed to develop individual skills that couldn’t be worked on during team practices.  Without individual and small group instruction with Coach Daup, I would not have been able to play Division I basketball at Ohio University.

What Other Coaches Are Saying

Charlie Coles – Miami University Men’s Basketball Coach

Jon is a first class person and a top notch teacher of the game.  I have all the respect in the world for him and he is one heck of a basketball coach.

Mike Price – Cincinnati Oak Hills High School Boys Basketball Coach

Jon is an excellent teacher of the fundamental skills required for basketball.  He positively and clearly communicates high expectations and self-motivation to the young people he teaches and coaches.

Steve DeDentJonathan Alder High School Boys’ Basketball Coach

Coach Daup’s ability to improve a player’s skill comes from his attention to detail.  His ability to pick up the smallest flaw in a fundamental aspect of a player’s game, makes Jon one of the best teachers of the game of basketball in Ohio.

Ryan Pedon – University of Toledo Men’s Assistant Basketball Coach

Dave Hoover’s record and reputation speak for itself in the state of Ohio.  He is one of the all-time greats, and his reputation precedes itself as a coach, teacher, motivator, and most importantly – as a person.

Ron Niekamp – University of Findlay Men’s Basketball Coach

I have known and have worked with both Jon Daup and Dave Hoover for
many years. They are both top notch teachers and coaches. It is obvious
that they have a great understanding of the game of basketball.

Todd Hardesty – former Dublin Scioto High School Girls’ Basketball Coach

"In all of my years of coaching, the best teachers of the game that I know are Coach Daup and Coach Hoover.  They have had success in every program that they've been a part of at any level.  If you want your child or player to 'just play basketball games', then JDH is not for you;  however, if you want your child or player to LEARN HOW to play the game, then you've found the best option!  As Coach D and Coach H would say:  Learn the game to play the game!"

Tony Bisutti – Dublin Scioto High School Boys’ Basketball Coach

From a pure teaching standpoint, Jon Daup and Dave Hoover are as good as anyone I’ve seen in the profession.  Their ability to breakdown the fundamental elements of the game go well beyond what one would normally expect to get in an average instructional basketball experience.  The successes of their teams and the individual improvement of former players are a direct testament of that.

Tom Souder - Worthington Kilbourne High School Boy’s Basketball Coach President of District 10 Coaches Association

"I have known Jon Daup and Dave Hoover most of my 30 year coaching
life.  Their expertise in the area of basketball is second to none. They also have a tremendous passion for the game and possess that special quality that draws young people to them.  If any young man or young lady aspires to develop further as a player or person, find a way to spend some time with either of these "Hall of Fame" coaches."

Ken Schneider – (former) Pickerington Central High School Girls’ Basketball Coach
Jon Daup has been a friend and fellow coach for many years. He is a
very knowledgeable and caring person, teacher and coach.  I would entrust
any of my players or daughters to his care and know they would be a better
player, person and athlete under his guidance, direction and coaching skills.

Sue Borchers – Granville High School Girl’s Basketball Coach

JDH is the perfect choice for a basketball coach who not only wants individual and team skill work for their players but also a camp or clinic that is specific to your coaching philosophy, respectful to the athletes and reasonable in price. I have and will continue to recommend that my athletes attend as many JDH camps and clinics as they can in the off season. It has truly benefited our program and I can't thank Jon and Dave enough for working with me, my athletes and our program!

Comments Of The Parents and Others

Brian and Deb Papish (parents)

Our daughter Katie spent part of her summer basketball skill development training with the JDH Winners’ Edge Position Skills Camp.  Combined, Coaches Jon Daup and Dave Hoover bring many years of successful basketball coaching experience to the skill development arena.  Both coaches had a keen sense of knowing how to break-down and rebuild each individual’s shooting or ball handling needs. In addition, Katie left camp with specific drills which would further address her needed areas of improvement and reinforce confidence in her strengths.

Thanks JDH for all you’ve given to her for a very successful Varsity season!

Jeff Vincent (parent)

Our daughter Hannah will tell you that working with Coach Daup has been a tremendous and worthwhile experience.  He is a coach who has great experience and knowledge of the game, is a stickler for good mechanics and fundamentals, and loves teaching the game.  Hannah has learned more basketball in her limited time with Coach Daup than she has from 4 years of playing organized basketball. She will be spending much more time with him this spring and summer.  He is a tremendous teacher of the game!

Diane Otonicar (parent)

I would like to say how impressed we were with JDH Winners’ Edge camp.  It was very well organized and the experience of being taught skills from Coach Dave Hoover himself was a bonus.  My son learned the skills he needs to be a successful basketball player.  He also attended individual lessons with Coach Hoover with focus on shooting, ball handling, and overall basketball knowledge.  I feel very confident in highly recommending this camp to anyone who has a child that has a passion for basketball as my son does.  It has helped his game tremendously and has given him more confidence to step up to the next level.

Dave and Lori Soehnlen (parents)

As parents of two boys that love the game of basketball, we can’t say enough good things about Coach Dave Hoover.  From the first time we met him we were very impressed with the way he worked with our sons.  Both boys have taken private lessons from him and our 8th grader attended the JDH Winners’ Edge camp at Malone College.  He had a great time and learned a lot.  He also received a lot of individual attention and advice from Dave and Jon.  Both of their games have improved and they both enjoyed a great basketball season this year in part because of the instruction they received, but, just as important, the encouragement which was never-ending.

Thelma and Joe Call (parents)

It has been our privilege to have Jon Daup as our daughter's basketball coach for the last four years.  His great love for the game and genuine concern for the players has inspired us as parents and fans. Jon is one of those rare individuals who has a vast knowledge of the game and is able to convey it in a way that players respond to.

Ted and Melanie Murdaugh (parents)

Coach Daup has one of the great basketball minds in the sport today.  From drill instruction to mental preparedness, we watched him transform our daughter (Crystal Murdaugh – Dublin Scioto / Bowling Green State University) from an athlete with “raw” athletic talent into an accomplished team player whose skills and abilities were improved in all areas. As much as he is knowledgeable about how to play the game the right way and his ability to teach this; arguably, his mentoring of athletes is one of his greatest skills.  He has demonstrated the ability to get players to see beyond themselves to pursue the greater good of team accomplishment.  When a coach can impact a player on both the mental and physical level, he not only changes their success rate on the basketball court, he changes their lives forever.  Coach Daup accomplishes both of these with his knowledge and passion for the game.  As a long-tenured educator, he has a sincere love for helping young people succeed in life.

Mark Kell (Parent)

The JDH Winners’ Edge High School Position Skills Camp our daughter Lindsey attended had great one-on-one coaching with a focus on building strong fundamental skills.   The players develop position(s) specific techniques while understanding the dynamics of team basketball.   The coaches evaluate and develop shooting technique and execution to build the player’s confidence. Patience, knowledge and teaching skills are key attributes of the staff!

Gregg / Melissa Simpson (parents)

Both of our daughters have had the pleasure of learning the game of basketball from Jon Daup.  Both play the post and the instruction of both the fundamentals and advanced skills have benefited them not only physically, but also mentally. They have learned not only basketball skills, but also life lessons that many players are not being taught by today’s instructors.

Our older daughter is a junior currently playing Division III college ball.  She is a leading post player at her college, has had three NCAA tournament appearances, and her team has won their conference tournament three years in a row. I attribute her success not only on the instruction on how to play the game individually, but more so in how to be a complete team player learned during her high school career with Coach Daup.

Our younger daughter has also learned the post game in the same manner and may play basketball at the collegiate level, but more then likely will end up using the mental and some of the physical skills on the volleyball court at the next level.

The knowledge and love for the game of basketball is clearly apparent in Coach Daup.  He goes above and beyond the call of duty to work with a player who is truly interested in learning and perfecting their game.  We were truly blessed to have Jon Daup working with our daughters the past six years.

Kip Witchey (Dublin Scioto Athletic Director)

I have known Jon for over twenty years and throughout that time he has been an excellent teacher and coach.  He has a very unique ability to reach kids and teach them about not
only basketball, but life as well.  He works very hard to know his kids and this allows him to identify their strengths and weaknesses as a basketball player.  Jon stresses fundamentals and has high expectations for those in which he works.  I have a great deal of respect for Jon and plan to have him work with my eleven year old daughter this summer.
